Westboro on WRD

Although this area looks nothing like Westboro (my fueling track area is more like what was there) it works for a small area I had for an engine house. The structure on the right and left are from BarMills while the engine house was scratch-built by Don Janes.
I took some views last week of the Westboro area of the layout. Here is a look down the roadway leading to my engine house...George Dutka

Throwback Thursday: Whether to Weather - Part One

CN 1369 was caught on March 05, 1994 in the yard at Brantford.  The cloth cover over the radiator would be a nice detail to model.
By Peter Mumby.

The decision to weather a piece of equipment can depend on a variety of factors.  What is the age of the prototype being  modelled?  How recently has the unit been repainted?  What type of service has it seen?  Ultimately I guess the decision is based on what appearance the modeller prefers - clean and shiny, or begrimed by years of hard service.  The two photos presented today were taken roughly six weeks apart, although very different finishes are apparent.  CN 1369 is wearing a fresh application of the latest switcher paint scheme, while the worn coat of paint on 1215 could be twenty years old.

CN 1215 was sitting near the Sarina diesel shop on April 23, 1994.

6218 in Vermont

Ian Stronach captured this view of the action at Swanton, Vermont on May 22, 1966. That is an impressive crowd.
There has been many views of CN 6218's visit to New England over the years. The one above at Swanton is an interesting view taken by Ian Stronach. Oh to get this overall view he was atop a boxcar in the siding. Try that today somewhere and see what happens. Thanks Ian...George Dutka

Hope you all have a great holiday this week with July 1st and July 4th falling through the week. We have family get togethers this week and a short trip up to Owen Sound later in the week. Here are some of my views from this spring to celebrate...George Dutka

PSTR nicely maintained caboose.

A visit to the beach on June 26, 2024 had me stop to get a few shots of the Port Stanley Terminal Railway.
