Pola Electrical Relay Boxes

The four boxes have a base coat applied.
We all have seen or used these small Pola HO scale relay boxes on our layout. They are kind of shiny and sometime odd colors. I decided to repaint mine recently as I have 4 kicking around. I began by weathering two after the group was painted.

I spray can painted one bright silver and the second Princess Auto Iron gray. Flat clear by Tamiya is spray can applied. I began by adding some rust dots using a Micron 03 black and 05 rust pens followed by AK rust steaks and slimy grime dark, then Vallejo rust texture. Once dry PanPastel raw umber shade is used to blend.

On the darker box I rusted it up with acrylic rust color paint which actually was called Vermont maple, but looks a lot like rust. An AK rust steak wash is then applied. Vallejo rust texture is applied as older looking rust. Areas of the box was highlighted with dry brushing milk white acrylic paint. Some PanPastel raw umber shade it then applied.

Will show you the other two shortly as they are just done. I added some extra PanPastels to these two yesterday which was interesting...George Dutka

Although this is not a rust color it appears to work well.

Vallejo rust texture is then applied.

The colors look a bit stark at this point but the powders and PanPastels will blend it all together.

The darker looking relay box is completed. PanPastel raw umber shade and Bragdon dark rust and soot have been applied.

An overhead view of this one which I really like how it turned out. Now to work on the other two.
