CP introduced its CPAA reporting mark in 1967. Its purpose was to designate a U.S.-built car that could be loaded Stateside in international service. CPAA 209004, of series 209000-209033, was assembled in 1978 at the height of the IPD (Incentive Per Diem) boxcar-building craze of the late 1970s. Its patched paint covered the NSL reporting mark, 101200-101324 series car number, and St Lawrence Railroad billboard lettering of its original owner. 209004 and its mates were in service on CP from 01/85 until 07/06.
