Komoka - Silo

An overall view of two silo's in October 2019.
I was over to Komoka for some fall colour railfan photos. Well all I got was a few structure views with no trains in sight. I am going to build a mill scene at some point and it was nice to get some detailed silo photos without anyone around being a Sunday...George Dutka

Two loading-unloading locations with power venting.
Note the larger size roof vents, something I had not noticed before and something a model should have.

A side door, ladder to the roof. The roof also has ladder rungs leading to the peak cap that can be opened. Another feature I had not focused on and should be added to a mill silo.

  1. A few other details noticed by this farm boy, aka Farm Nerd. Those two legs sticking out in the second photo look to be unloading augers to me. They pull grain from the bottom of the bins and have the drive motors mounted on top. Likely they would feed into another auger that would fill a truck.
Those large vents on the roof could be modelled but it depends on the timeframe. I never noticed many installed on bins until the late 1980s or thereabout. At least on the smaller farm sized bins, less then 10,000 bushel size.
Another detail in the fourth photo is the boot or cone for the ventilation fan on the left side of the bin at the bottom.
One last detail that may have escaped notice unless you know it's there is the roof manway hatch. It is located between the roof ladder and the vent in the last picture.
Just some information for the folks out there if they're interested.
