A favorite stop on my way to New England over the past three decades. |
Yesterday was the last day for Central Hobby Supply in Syracuse, NY. The shop at one time offered West Shore Line kits exclusive to this shop. I was lucky enough to pick up a few kits in the past. The writing was on the walls the last few stopovers with many empty shelves. Lot of good memories...George Dutka

One of my West Shore Line kits completed. Check out my blog post from Sept 8 2016 for more information regarding this kit.

CHS was one of the best hobby shops back in the 1990's and early 2000's. I visited every time I went to the Alcan plant in Oswego, NY, which was four or five times a year. At my last visit two years ago the future looked bleak.
ReplyDeleteBack in the 1990's I remember guys from around here driving there just for the day to load up on kits and parts...a 5 hour drive each way...I used to look forward to a stop there on trips to New England as it was about the half way mark...George
DeleteBill has been my Go To shop for all of my mail ordering for over 25 years. Suggestions on where to go now?
ReplyDeleteNot sure Bill. There is less and less hobby shops around. We are loosing another one here in Ontario at the end of the month...George Dutka
DeleteAA Hobbies in Warwick, Rhode Island (across the street from the Providence Airport) is a gem. An incredible stock of motive power, rolling stick, hundreds of detail parts and more. And if you don't find it upstairs, ask John for the key and head down to the basement. There is another complete hobby shop down there with hundreds of engines and cars. John is always at Springfield but brings mainly locomotives.
ReplyDeleteWow that sounds like a place I better visit. Thanks Ian for the input...George
