Throwback Thursday - Steam Capacity to Spare

Via 6542 is guiding its eastbound train towards London Junction on November 03, 1988.

By Peter Mumby.

With the exception of the streamlined cars used in transcontinental trains, blue and yellow was the colour scheme of Via's steam heated locomotives and coaches.  During the first fifteen years of the company's existence this was the standard equipment on the majority of the passenger runs in Corridor service.  All of Via's F units were steam generator equipped.  In addition, separate steam generator cars were available for additional capacity or for operation behind freight locomotives.  The short train in today's photo would appear to have train heating well looked after since it featured both a boiler-equipped locomotive and a separate generator car.
